Your First Visit /
What to Know
Before Your First Appointment
Jane Account Setup
Before your first appointment, you will receive an email inviting you to set up your Jane account. This is where you can book appointments, access forms, and manage your information. Setting up your account ahead of time gives your therapist useful information before your first session and makes your check-in easier. If you need help with the setup, one of our amazing administrative staff can help you.
Forms
You will also receive an email with a few forms to fill out, which will be included in your Jane account. These help your therapist understand what you want to work on and provide important background information before you arrive. Completing the forms beforehand allows you to make the most of your first session.
Insurance Coverage
If you have insurance, check your plan to see whether counselling is covered. When possible, we direct bill insurance providers; if we can’t, we provide detailed receipts you can submit for reimbursement. If you have questions about how this works, we are happy to guide you.
Appointments for Minors
Consent from all legal guardians is required when working with minors. This will be discussed during the intake appointment, and is required prior to the therapist meeting with a child. Most of our therapists meet with guardians alone for the intake appointment: be sure to confirm with our admin team to find out whether your child should attend the intake appointment.
When You Arrive
Finding Us
We are located on the second floor, accessible through the doors beside the red pillar on our building. Give yourself a few minutes to find the space, grab a warm beverage from our coffee bar and settle in.
Showing Up Early
It is completely fine to arrive early. Take a moment to decompress, relax, read, play with your child, build our puzzle, or grab a coffee or tea. We have designed our waiting areas to feel comfortable and welcoming, so being early is totally ok.
Checking In
When you arrive, please stop at the front desk so our admin team can check you in. If the admin is temporarily away from the desk, feel free to help yourself to a hot drink or some chilled water from the fridge, and find a comfortable spot to sit. Your therapist will come out to greet you when it is time for your session.
Your Session
Your first session is a chance for you and your therapist to get to know each other, talk about what brought you in, and explore what you hope to work on. You can ask any questions you have, and there is no pressure to explain everything perfectly. This time is about creating a sense of comfort and direction together.
After Your Session
Scheduling and Payment
Stop by the front desk to schedule your next session and take care of payment. If you prefer to pay before your session so you can leave quietly afterward, that option is available too.
If the Therapist Is Not the Right Fit
It is very normal to take time finding the therapist who feels right for you. If you do not feel fully comfortable with your therapist, let the admin team know. We can help you connect with someone who may be a better match.
Meet-and-Greet Options
Some of our therapists offer short meet-and-greet appointments if you want to meet them briefly before booking a full session.
